The Mega Millions winning numbers are... yet to be revealed tonight. The six lucky digits will be drawn at exactly 11 p.m. EST this Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013. Although the winning jackpot is already one of the biggest if not the biggest in history, the total jackpot prize is expected to skyrocket because of the strong ticket sales today, according to WTVR. As of late, the Virginia Lottery officials are anticipating a whopping 12,000 ticket sales for today since many have shown interest in bringing winning the Mega Millions winning numbers draw.
"The vast majority of our sales happen the day of the drawing," Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto said. "We know there will be more sales today than Saturday, Sunday and Monday combined." Otto added that the undeniable increase in ticket sales is due to the fact that players tend to buy their tickets on the very last day or the day of drawing. He explained that many people try to as much as possible estimate the final jackpot first prior to purchasing their Mega Millions tickets. AZCentral reported that about 70% of all the possible number combinations have already been selected based on the official statement of the Arizona Lottery officials so it's not impossible that someone is already holding the ticket with the Mega Millions winning numbers for tonight's draw.
According to Arizona Lottery officials, if nobody is going to win tonight, the total jackpot prize is to roll for the 22nd time and will possibly reach the $950 million mark. This surpasses the current highest jackpot record of $300 million. The $950 Million figure is expected to roll even more if no one is going to win the next draw. For Tuesday's draw, The Arizona Lottery reportedly reached $1.4 million in Mega Millions ticket sales; hence, officials are dying to find out whether the ticket sales for Thursday's draw will match or surpass the said figure.
Meanwhile, Director of Budget, Products, and Communication for Arizona Lottery Karen Bach said that although ticket sales have undeniably increased the odds of winning remains the same. But then again, everyone's luck will be tested in tonight's draw so it's a definitely a fair play for everyone who tried their best to come up with the Mega Millions winning number combinations. Tickets are sold in 42 states including the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands for only $1, so it won't be surprising if we will be having a winner or a group of winners after tonight's Mega Millions draw.
In playing the Mega Millions draw, a player must choose six numbers; five of which are from 1 to 75 while the remaining one is referred to as the Mega Ball and is only chosen from 1 to 15. If all of the numbers on the ticket of the player are the same digits flashed after the Mega Millions draw, then he is bringing home the total jackpot prize. However, the likelihood of winning the Mega Millions jackpot prize is 1 in over 259 million. On the other hand, there are also second-place prizes for tickets with five winning numbers. The second place prize is $1 million.
The Mega Millions winning numbers draw happens every Tuesday and Friday at around 10:45 p.m. EST. But the official results are posted shortly after 11 p.m. EST on the main webpage of the Mega Millions Lottery. Winnings are delivered in two options: one-time cash payment or in 30 separate payments.
