Country singer legend Ray Price died at his Texas home in Monday afternoon at age 87, according to a family spokesman as reported by Billboard.

The beloved country singer had pancreatic cancer and had been battling the disease late last year. Thursday last week, December 12, Ray Price was admitted to a hospice care and left his fans a message:

"I am at peace. I love Jesus. I'm going to be just fine. Don't worry about me. I'll see you again one day."

Bill Mack, country radio veteran who acted as Price's family's spokesman, relayed on his Facebook page that the wife of the late singer confirmed Price's passing.

"Ray Price left for heaven at 4:43 PM Central Time," Mack wrote on his Facebook page. "He went in perfect peace."

In another report, the Associated Press said that Billie Perryman, the wife of family friend Tom Perryman, also confirmed the singer's death.

On Sunday, December 15, news circulated from various sources that Price had died and were posted in home pages and social media. Cliff Price, the singer's son, wrote on Facebook that he 'heard" about his father's passing, but later on removed his post saying he was "deceived by cruel reports."

Ray Price's musical career spanned some 65 years, and his recordings stand among the most versatile in the format's history -- ranging from honky-tonk to western swing to a more lush sound in the 1960s that brought him some of the biggest hits of his career.

Ray Price was born on January 12, 1926 in Perryville, Texas. At 18, he enlisted in the marines where he stayed for two years. His first five releases was a "no hit" but his 1952 "Talk To Your Heart" climbed its way to No. 3 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs. He lived with Hank Williams for a time between his marriages to Audrey and Billie Jean, Billboard reported.
