Phil Robertson, 67, one of the stars of the hit television show Duck Dynasty, said he is not backing down, after getting suspended for giving gender-insensitive comments during a controversial interview with GQ magazine, according to a report by Us Weekly magazine.
"We are a bunch of rednecks from Louisiana, but I am not uneducated, I have a degree from Louisiana Tech. But this week I have been called an ignoramus," Robertson told The Daily Mail.
Clearly, Robertson is sticking to what he said during his GQ magazine interview.
During a bible study group in West Monroe, Louisiana last Sunday, December 22, Robertson was asked if "is this the first time you [Robertson] have brought up sin?" and strongly and unequivocally responded to the question.
"Are you kidding? I have been traveling to and fro spreading this message," Robertson said.
"I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater," he added. Robertson then led the group in prayer and said, "I will not give or back off from my path because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions."
Robertson made no mention of A&E, the network where Duck Dynasty is being aired, which suspended him indefinitely, according to a report by Us Weekly.
The Duck Dynasty patriarch was suspended last week after making controversial several homophobic and racially-charged remarks when being interviewed by GQ magazine. The interview was published in the magazine's January 2014 issue.
When the A&E network placed Robertson in an indefinite suspension, his family issued a statement supporting him.
"We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm," the statement said. "We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty."
