The Louisiana shootings attacker was believed to have enlisted a shotgun in his murder-suicide plot against his current wife and several others following a "complicated divorce/custody issue," authorities said Friday.

According to ABCNews, the Louisiana shootings left 4 people dead including the attacker himself. The man reportedly attacked his former in-laws, his current wife, and th head of a hospital where he used to work for.

The bloody shootings took place at four locations: two parishes about 45 miles southwest of New Orleans Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Ben Freeman, who was found dead in his vehicle after attacking three people.

At around 6:40 p.m., Lafourche Parish Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux was shot in the throat. Fortunately, he managed to dial 911 from his home in Lockport, according to a The Courier report.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Brennan Matherne said in a statement that 38-year-old Freeman was apparently the ex-husband of Gouaux's daughter Jeanne.

While Phillip was reportedly treated for his injuries his wife Susan "Pixie" Gouaux was found dead when authorities arrived as confirmed by the Sheriff's Office on social media. Additionally, the social media post stated that Phillip and his daughter, Andrea Gouaux were taken to University Hospital in New Orleans.

Nonetheless, Freeman was still out in the open that time; thus, 20 minutes later he inflicted another Louisiana shooting wherein he managed to shoot Raceland, Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital administrator Milton Bourgeois in Bourgeois' own home. Matherne said that Bourgeois was shot at close range, leading to his instant demise. Meanwhile, Bourgeois' wife, Ann, who was shot in the leg, is now listed in stable condition at another New Orleans hospital.

Then, another report revealed that Freeman had shot and killed his current wife, Denise Taylor Freeman in Terrebonne Parish.

Finally, Ben Freeman was found dead along the U.S. Highway 90 near Bayou Blue. Authorities revealed that his death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputies said that Freeman used a shotgun in the series of Louisiana shootings.

"Clearly, there has been a very difficult and complicated divorce/custody issue going on," Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said late Thursday.

Webre added that Freeman had been employed at three area hospitals over the last few years, including St. Anne, where he got fired in 2011.

According to previous records, although the reason behind Freeman's termination remains vague, police had been enlisted to St. Anne hospital after Ben allegedly damaged a room. Authorities then believed that Freeman needed mental aid, Webre said.
