Pop star Selena Gomez was reported to be battling with lupus disease after the pop singer announced that she was cancelling the Asian and Australian leg of her tour, according to a report by the Huffington Post.
After the announcement, speculations arose that the Selena Gomez was rehab-bound after suffering a breakdown, the Huff Post report said.
However, all this rumors were proven false after a new report came out saying that the singer is seeking some time off to take care of herself and deal with the dreaded lupus disease.
According to sources, Selena Gomez, 21, was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease a few years back. Reports said that Gomez recently suffered multiple "flares," which caused her to experience extreme fatigue, joint pain, headaches, and facial swelling.
"Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now," a source told the Huff Post. "She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life."
A representative of the singer gave a "no comment" remark when the Huff Post asked if Gomez was suffering from the lupus disease. But when the rehab rumors surfaced, a source denied it and mentioned that Selena Gomez has health concerns.
"She is not having a breakdown," the source said. "She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK."
According to Medical News Today, the lupus disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. When this happens, the disease causes inflammation, swelling and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.
