"He Got Game" star Ray Allen returned to the court this week and could be playing basketball once more on the big screen in the movie's sequel if the Miami Heat player had his way.
Miami Heat point guard Ray Allen, who played Jesus Shuttlesworth in the 1998 movie "He Got Game," recently shared that he and producer Spike Lee have been discussing a possible sequel for the movie over the past few months. The basketball player added that he and the filmmaker are currently completely focused on the project, throwing ideas back and forth in their discussions.
"Sequels to most movies are always fluff and not as good as the first," Ray Allen shared on Tuesday night just before his team's game against the New Orleans Pelicans. "But it's something we've been talking about for the last couple months. If we get a really good story line and are able to bring everybody back, then it would be something worth doing."
Spike Lee uploaded a picture of himself and Ray Allen to his account in a social media site the previous summer, saying then that he and Allen had been discussing a sequel for "He Got Game." The seriousness of their talks remained unconfirmed until now.
Ray Allen, who is reportedly still called "Jesus" by his Miami Heat teammates, declared he's "determined" to make it happen.
"Hopefully it works out," Allen added.
In "He Got Game," Ray Allen played Jesus Shuttlesworth, a much coveted and highly recruited high school basketball ace.
Oscar winner Denzel Washington took on the role of his father, who had been given parole from prison for a week to get his son Jesus to join the governor's former school while hot actress Rosario Dawson starred as his leading lady.
Allen also played a key role in Miami Heat's second straight championship, the "He Got Game" star proving he really does have game when he made a 3-pointer that left Game 6 of the NBA Finals tied with Miami Heat on the verge of losing to San Antonio.
"He Got Game" seemed to have revived its early popularity after that game and Allen sporting "J. Shuttlesworth" on his Jersey for all his games only added to the movie's fans.
"Not one day goes by where I walk in here and guys don't say that they didn't watch it last night or it wasn't on," the Miami Heat point guard explained. "I don't know who's in charge of delegating what gets on TV, but it seems like that movie's been on a lot the last two or three months."
