Nastia Liukin or Anastasia Valeryevna "Nastia" Liukin is gearing for another gold medal in the winter games. Well not really, but this 2008 Summer Olympics gold medalist will be there as correspondent to the series of competitions that will take place starting next month in Sochi.
Nastia Liukin may have retired from her craft as a gymnast, but she definitely didn't allow the Olympics spirit in her to whither as she even joined the NBC Sports team as a contributor during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. And now, it's time to see her once again as she represent her country not as a contestant but as a correspondent in Sochi for the winter games.
Just recently, Nastia Liukin visited the TODAY show to share some tips on how she managed to maintain her figure. That's not all she also dished about her ab routine and her own diet tips for those who want to shed some pounds or simply maintain their shape.
"A lot of protein, a lot of vegetables, a lot of greens," Liukin said. "I don't really eat too many carbs, and if I do, it's brown rice or quinoa. And I really love green juices. I don't necessarily do green juice cleanses for a week long, but if I'm not feeling that great, I'll just do a one or two day juice cleanse, and it will just pick me right back up."
Meanwhile, it can be noted that Nastia failed to secure a spot in the US Olympic squad in 2012 following her remarkable performance in 2008. But the optimistic gymnast shares that it was still for the best as she ended her gymnastics career in a positive note.
"To be able to end it with thousands and thousands of people standing on their feet cheering for me even though I had not an amazing performance is something that I will remember... You couldn't have planned out a better way to end a career," she said of her experience.
Back then Liukin recognized the influx of talent in her field of sport and she even singled out McKayla Maroney and Gabrielle Douglas as promising representatives.
"It has nothing to do with age, it has to do with the performance that you are putting out," Liukin said. "This time, the young generation came in stronger. I don't think if you are over 20 you can't make it. It just shows the amazing talent that we have," she added.
Nastia Liukin is known for being the 2008 Olympic individual all-around champion, the 2005 and 2007 World Champion on the balance beam category, and the 2005 World Champion on the uneven bars category. She retired from the sport at the young age of 24 in 2012 after a series of failed trials for the Olympics and pre-Olympic events.
