PSY reportedly died on January 11, 2014. The Korean singer who got the world dancing to his hit songs 'Gangnam Style' and 'Gentlemen' was allegedly found dead inside his home in Korea. Because of this the "R.I.P. PSY" Facebook page attracted nearly one million of likes from his fans all over the world. However, it was found out later on that the Korean hitmaker is perfectly fine. He was just victimized by the circulating death hoaxes on the Internet.
PSY's international fans were stunned when they read about PSY's passing on an online site called Mediamass. Moreover, the Global Associated News also reported his death, which made it even more believable.
According to MediaMass, following PSY's death, the "R.I.P. PSY" Facebook page gained a lot of likes and comments expressing their sympathy to the hitmaker's family and friends. The page states, "At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (January 11, 2014), our beloved singer PSY passed away. PSY was born on December 31, 1977 in Seoul. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."
Just hours after the Facebook page was created, it also received a lot of comments, likes, and shares just like the Korean singer/rapper's hit songs 'Gangnam Style' and 'Gentlemen.' Twittersphere was even frenzied by people who expressed their condolences to the 36-year-old singer's loved ones.
Although many were quick to believe that the report was true, some remained skeptical due to the huge possibility of it being a death hoax just like the long list of celebrity death hoaxes circulating social media.
On the other hand, many believed the report in Global Associated News since it even explained that the 36-year-old unfortunately passed away after a vehicular crash. Nevertheless, some fans pointed out that a short notice about the false nature of the report was provided below the Global Associated News page.
But things took a different turn when Korean news site, The Chosun Ilbo, reported about PSY's current promotional activities in Korea including one at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Because of these many slammed the false reports and commented that the news about the famous rapper's death was yet another death hoax.
PSY now joins a long list of famous personalities and Hollywood celebrities who became victims of the circulating death hoaxes. Other famous people who reportedly died in death hoaxes include: Chloe Moretz, Morgan Freeman, Justin Bieber, Sandra Bullock, and many more.
