Woody Allen: 'Mia-Gate', 20 Years Later

At the Golden Globes this weekend, one of Hollywood's most celebrated artists, director Woody Allen, was awarded one of the highest honors the show gives out, The Cecil B. Demille Award, but the notoriously relusive Allen was nowhere in the vicinity. Instead, Diane Keaton, one of his co-stars from several of his most acclaimed films and former lover, accepted in his behalf. As the dust finally begins to settle from the weekend of La La Land indulgently loving itself, the rumblings of why Woody Allen was M.I.A. are rearing their head. Nearly twenty years after Mia Farrow rocked the industry with accusations of sexual abuse against Allen, this year's Golden Globes caused emotions to stir yet again. On Sunday, Mia Farrow issued her own response via Twitter during the broadcast:
Time to grab some icecream & switch over to #GIRLS
As did the son they had together, Ronan Farrow:
Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?
Although Allen has long claimed his innocence and as been married to Soon-Yi Previn for nearly two decades (the couple have two adopted children together) he has barely addressed the incident in public even two decades later. Similar to Roman Polanski before him, Woody Allen has been vilified in the press but is, by and large, beloved in Hollywood. Now many people have forgotten the specifics of the case, and another generation has emerged that have little to no knowledge of it, even in this digital age we live in. Now that Allen is being trust into the spotlight yet again for something other than his films, the question remains now...will he ever fully address these charges to the satisfaction of the doubters?
With attention high on the subject once again, maybe now is the time for Woody Allen to lay to rest once and for all the claims made by Mia Farrow, his son and adopted children. And maybe, just maybe, Soon-Yi Previn herself will finally speak on the issue?
