Kate Gosselin was less than happy with the disastrous first guest appearance of her twin girls on Thursday's "Today" show after 13-year-old Cara and Maddy clammed up for host Savannah Guthrie and refused to answer any questions directed at them.

It was a couch full of awkwardness for the Gosselin family and host Savannah Guthrie when the Today show host was met with radio silence in the middle of recording after she asked Cara and Maddy Gosselin about their recent People magazine feature.

In the People magazine interview, Kate Gosselin claimed all her children were "doing well," even with her controversial divorce from Jon Gosselin and a life growing up in the limelight.

Despite Kate Gosselin's continuous attempts to get the two girls talking, saying "It's your chance, spit it out," to the twins, Cara and Maddy insisted on remaining silent for the duration of the show.

"This is the most wordless I've heard them all morning," the reality TV star explained through clenched teeth. "I don't want to speak for them but, Mady, go ahead. Sort of the things that you said in [People] magazine, that years later they're good, they're fine. Go for it, it's your chance."

"No," Mady responded. "You just said it."

Kate attempted to rectify the situation, going on to explain, "They get really frustrated that people assume certain things in our house and they always say, 'But that's not how it is, mommy. Why do they say that about us?' "

The reality TV star spoke for the three of them for the remainder of the interview, with a terrified-looking Mady occasionally added in just a few words.

After the disastrous sit-down, Gosselin reportedly "let the girls have it," said an insider who saw the family backstage.

"She went type-A crazy," the source said about Gosselin. "She was upset that they had a chance to speak for themselves and defend her and they blew it. She told them, 'You embarrassed mommy,' and some people heard. She was not happy."

After leaving the set, Kate Gosselin attempted major damage-control by tweeting, "Thanks to @TODAYshow for having Cara, Mady and me on the show today! 1st live interview can render even the gabbiest girls speechless :)"

The reality TV mainstay followed up the tweet with another, telling her followers, "@Boosterdude no damage done. They wanted to do interview with me, I said 'go for it' #morelifeopportunities #proudmomnomatterwhat."

Jon Gosselin, the twins' biological father, had a few things to say regarding the incident.

"Definitely. Someone has to sign the paperwork for them to go on television. It wasn't me. They're minors ... You put our kids into a situation that they were not prepared for at all. They weren't allowed to be themselves," Jon Gosselin said in an interview, blaming his former wife for the disastrous non-chat.
