Will Smith is dead at the age of 45. At least that's what many news sites reported after shocking news about the actor's tragic death was published on a notorious site. Although many fans were quick to approve the report and express their condolences and sympathy to the actor's family, it was found out later on that the online buzz was unfortunately another one of the perturbing celebrity death hoaxes victimizing Hollywood stars, celebs, and famous personalities.
According to the International Business Times, a report which found its way through social media claimed that actor Will Smith has unfortunately passed away. The site even said that the new hoax arrived just weeks after Jim Carrey's alleged death also gained significant attention from netizens.
The culprit behind the death hoaxes was found to be the notorious site Global Associated News, a website that is known for its false news about celebrity deaths and accidents.
The site's report was made believable through several convincing statements including the detailed info on Smith's alleged accident on January 19th while he was filming a movie in New Zealand.
"Actor Will Smith died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - January 19, 2014. Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available," a statement from the false report reads. "The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 am. (UTC/GMT +12)."
The circulating hoax received a lot of response from concerned fans who thought the report was real. They even echoed their sympathy to Smith's family on social media, according to Travelers Today.
Meanwhile, Media Mass reported that an 'R.I.P. Will Smith' Facebook page was created in the midst of Will Smith's alleged passing. The page attracted a lot of attention and it even received nearly one million likes.
"At about 11 a.m. ET on Friday (January 24, 2014), our beloved actor Will Smith passed away. Will Smith was born on September 25, 1968 in Philadelphia. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page," the description for the page reads.
However, some sites claim that Media Mass is also another notorious site that spreads false rumors about celebrity deaths and whatnot. Whether this is true or not is yet to be disclosed.
Nevertheless, a similar Will Smith death hoax surfaced way back in 2011, according to the Examiner. The site even quoted the report and it contained the same sentences with noticeable changes on the date and time of the accident. Because of these many people knew that the circulating report was indeed a death hoax.
Will Smith is currently busy filming his forthcoming film, which is set to be released within this year.
