The Houston Rockets are expected to be active on trade front in the next few weeks as the 2014 deadline approaches.

The Rockets, who have been surrounded by trade talks this season, are expected to receive inquiries about the availability of Omer Asik, and the Rockets are expected to listen to offers.

Asik, who has been on trading block since he asked to be moved after the Rockets acquired Dwight Howard, could finally be moved before the deadline after several failed attempts in the past two months.

The disgruntled center was almost traded to the Boston Celtics earlier this month before the negotiations went down, but the two teams are expected to resume talks before the deadline.

Sources said that the Celtics, who almost acquired Asik in exchange for Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee, could be willing to offer Jeff Green in a deal for the disgruntled center before the deadline.

Boston recently denied shopping Rajon Rondo, which suggests that they are looking to rebuild their team around the 27-year-old All-Star point guard, and Asik could be a nice defensive center complement to Rondo.

"More executives think the Celtics want to trade Jeff Green. They're probably trying to persuade someone to take Gerald Wallace along with Green, though many figure they'll eventually move Green. A nice exchange could be for Omer Asik, giving the Celtics a point guard/defensive center core to move forward with along with Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk," NBA analyst Sam Smith noted.

Green, on the other hand, could be the stretch four the Rockets have been looking for since signing Howard. The 27-year-old forward is having a great season, averaging 16.0 points and 4.9 rebounds.

Aside from trading Asik before the deadline, the Rockets are also expected to become buyers in hope of improving their title chances this season. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey told Clutch Fans that they will explore deals that would make the team better in time for the playoffs in April.

"We're valuing now and this season much higher than we have in the past. We feel like, while maybe not the favorite, we have a legit chance to win the title this year. So if an opportunity presents itself to get a lot better this year, we'll do it. We'll give up some future for now," Morey said.
