Danica Patrick, NASCAR's sexiest race car driver, was involved in a huge crash that left 13 drivers and their cars out of the Daytona 500 race.
Danica Patrick was among the 13 drivers involved in the crash that erupted on Lap 146. She and competitor Austin Dillon were sent hurtling into the outside wall because of several cars ahead of them.
The crash that robbed Danica Patrick's Daytona 500 win started when Kevin Harvick drifted up into the cars of Aric Almirola and Brian Scott, triggering a chain-reaction crash.
Almirola's car slammed into Danica Patrick, sending the NASCAR driver speeding across the track and slamming hard into the outside wall.
"Oh, man. What the hell happened?" said Danica Patrick when her car finally came to a halt. She did not sustain any injuries because of the crash.
"It’s a bummer, but you know that is the excitement of speedway racing that anything can happen, and it was unfortunate that I was on the short end of the accident," Patrick remarked.
According to NBCSports, at least 12 drivers were involved in the wreck, including David Gilliland, Michael Waltrip, Paul Menard, Parker Kligerman, Marcos Ambrose, Justin Allgaier, Kasey Kahne, Almirola, Dillon and Patrick.
"The cars are grippy and people are crazy," Waltrip explained. "There are a lot of lanes out there and people are trying to use everyone one of them."
Waltrip was unsure about the details as well as who bumped into his car, but expressed frustration over being a victim to the accident.
“They crashed ahead of us and I saw it and let off and I got clobbered and it was like the guy never knew there was a wreck,” he said.
Almirola also became frustrated with the results, feeling that he was also an innocent victim.
“Everybody was on older tires right there, and I think somebody got loose up under me and the next thing I knew I was pounding the fence,” Almirola said.
Danica Patrick had been aiming for the trophy and expressed the same sentiments as the other drivers who were involved in the unfortunate accident.
