NFL Trade Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Interested In Trading For Detroit Lions’ Nick Fairley

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly planning to bolster their defensive line to make a quick turnaround this season, and reports indicated that they could target Detroit Tigers defensive tackle Nick Fairley.
FanSided recently reported that Fairley could be on trading block as the Lions remain hesitant to extend his contract, which could lead into a trade before next season.
Fairley, who was drafted 13th overall in 2011, is coming off the best season of his career, recording a career-best 35 tackles with six sacks last season.
The 26-year-old DT formed a dreaded defensive duo with Ndamukong Suh last season, but it appears that the Lions are still not convinced that Fairley deserves a contract extension.
Sources indicated that Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has talked about a possible contract extension, but he is not planning to offer a new deal anytime soon. Mayhew is reportedly looking for more consistency from Fairley.
"Mayhew stated that Fairley is at a crossroads in Detroit," FanSided noted. "He looks great for stretches and then tends to disappear. Mayhew wants more consistency from him before considering the option but it does raise the question about how long Fairley has been in hot water."
Reports also indicated that the Cowboys' new coaching staff, led by head coach Jim Caldwell, allegedly urged Mayhew to hold off extension talks until Fairley proves his worth next season.
FanSided added, though, that the Lions could end up trading Fairley, considering the fact that several teams have been in a hunt for defensive talents.
Sources indicated that the Cowboys could be an ideal landing spot for Fairley, saying that a combination of Fairley and Henry Melton could work wonders for the Cowboys next season.
"Most experts believe they will seek out that player in the NFL draft but if the situation deteriorate with Fairley in Detroit, they might find better value in a trade," FanSided noted. "The idea of pair Melton, one of the better interior pass rushers in the league with a big, disruptive bull like Fairley could be the shot the arm the Cowboys defense will need to spark a turnaround."
