Kyle Wilson could be traded before the 2014 NFL season as the New York Jets continue to rebuild this offseason.

According to ESPN New York NFL insider Rich Cimini, Wilson could be on his way out of the Jets as general manager John Idzik is looking to add players, who can make immediate impact next season.

Cimini pointed out that the 26-year-old cornerback could be the odd man out of the Jets after Idzik traded Derelle Revis, Dustin Keller, and Mark Sanchez - cornerbacks who were also selected by former general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Wilson will be playing in the final year of his contract next season, which means that he could also look for a starting job to earn a decent contract next season.

However, Wilson is not expected to earn a starting job next season, especially after the Jets acquire Dimitri Patterson and Johnny Patrick. Reports added that the Wilson trade speculation will be validated if the Jets pick another cornerback in the 2014 NFL Draft.

"They've already sent a message to Wilson, acquiring two slot corners -- Dimitri Patterson and Johnny Patrick," Cimini noted. "The activity has fueled speculation in league circles that Wilson is on the way out. That's premature -- the Jets aren't thinking that way -- but it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out if they draft a cornerback in the first or second round, a definite possibility."

Wilson had 2,195 defensive snaps, but had just six impact plays - three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. Cimini pointed out that Wilson should prove his worth quickly if he wants to continue playing with the Jets.

"He's a durable, hard-working player, but it's all about making plays. Clearly, the organization has added competition, so Wilson will have to raise his game if he wants to play out his contract in New York," Cimini said.
