Prince Harry's break-up with long-time girlfriend Cressida Bonas may have been due to the couple's demand for a "breather" amid all the public speculations on their alleged royal engagement and wedding.

It was perhaps one of the saddest news for the royal family as Prince Harry decided to break up with his girlfriend of two years, Cressida Bonas.

Even before the newly split couple could open up about their rumored break up, several sources already revealed to The Telegraph that Prince Harry has regained the crown of Britain's most eligible bachelor after ending his 2-year romance with Cressida.

The British media have been very vocal on their speculations that the prince and Bonas were already heading towards an engagement and a royal wedding, when all of a sudden, some insiders said that the couple have "paused for a breather."

"It is virtually impossible to have a successful romance and relationship in the full glare of the world's media," one source said, the National Post reported.

British media reported that about a month ago, 24-year-old Cressida Bonas even accompanied 29-year-old Prince Harry to an official royal business, so now everyone are quite surprised that they have gone separate ways.

BBC's Peter Hunt dished about Prince Harry's break up with Cressida Bonas on his Twitter account.

"Prince Harry and his girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, have split up. It's said to be 'amicable' and they remain 'the best of friends,'" Hunt wrote, adding, "Prince Harry is keen, according to those who know him, to  make it clear the relationship didn't end because he found Cressida 'too needy.'"

Meanwhile, People reported that Harry opened up to his friends, saying that Cressida was too needy.

"After dating for nearly two years, Harry, 29, recently confided in friends that things were not going well with the 24-year-old beauty.  'He found her too needy and it just wasn't working out,' says a source close to the prince," People reported.

On the other hand, Star magazine reported that Kate Middleton, Prince Harry's sister-in-law, may have been the prime catalyst of Prince Harry's break up with Cressida Bonas.

"Cressida wants to slow things down," a source told the tabloid.  "Cressida has spoken with Kate about the expectations that come with being part of the royal family and how unbelievably busy she is ... Kate's been honest about her struggles and it's been a lot for Cressida to process."

It can be noted that Cressida Bonas was introduced to Prince Harry by Princess Eugenie of York. Bonas studied dance at Leeds University.
