The teenager who was reported to had committed suicide over her mother's request that she should stop wasting her time and stop using Facebook by closing her account, happened just after her mother left home for work. Upon returning to their house, the girl's mother discovered her daughter, Aditi Gupta hanged herself inside her own bedroom.

The girl that committed suicide was known to have been very upset on her mother for reprimanding her for spending too much time online chatting with her friends on Facebook. The mother , Mohana Gupta told police that she was shocked and in grief over the death of her daughter, she even said that could not believe that her daughter would commit suicide for "something so trivial."

Mohana Gupta also gave statements to the police that she leaves for work at around 9:30 in the morning, and that her husband leaves earlier than her while her other children were at their grandmother's house for the holidays when the incident happened.
