Manuel Uribe, who once weighed 1,230 pounds and was declared the World's Heaviest Man in 2006 by Guinness World Records passed away on Monday, 26 May 2014, due to yet unknown causes.
At the time of his death, Uribe weighed 867 pounds but was already bed-ridden for quite sometime. His death was confirmed by an official at the health department of Monterrey, in Nuevo Leon. Speaking under anonymity, the official also added that Uribe had been confined to a hospital in Monterrey since 2 May 2014 due to an abnormal heartbeat. He was transported to the hospital with a crane and with the assistance of civil defence workers.
While the cause of the Mexican record-holder's death currently remains unknown, doctors suspect he might have succumbed to a cardiac condition and complications from existing liver problems.
Uribe had been bedridden since 2002, relying on his family and friends to take care of him. Since his adolescent years, Uribe weighed more than the average Mexican teen at 250 pounds.
Twice married, once divorced, Uribe leaves behind his widow, second wife Claudia Solis, whom he married in 2008. He had no children.
