Barcelona is looking to make big moves this summer in hopes of improving their chances next season after failing to advance to the Champions League Finals and finishing second in the Spanish La Liga.
Recent reports indicated that the club is ready to part ways with Alexis Sanchez to make room for new signings this summer, but Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu denied reports about the attacker's impending exit.
In an interview with Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, Bartomeu stressed that Sanchez is not for sale, saying that the 25-year-old forward is still a part of the plan for the 2014-15 season.
"Alexis has a contract, he is a player with our team, he is here and has played an excellent season with Barcelona," Bartomeu said. "Obviously, he is part of our plans for next season, we have always needed him, he is one of the very valued players in this institution."
Sanchez, who scored a total of 47 goals in 140 games for Barcelona this season, is reportedly on the radar of several top-tier teams in Europe, including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Juventus.
The Daily Star reported last week that Liverpool, which finished second to Manchester City in this year's Barclays Premier League, are reportedly planning to offer £18 million to Sanchez.
Juventus were also reportedly ready to shed a big amount of money to acquire the Chilean attacker with reports suggesting that Barcelona has already received an offer from the club, but Bartomeu said that such reports are not true.
"I know nothing about interest from Juventus. No one has made an official offer," Bartomeu said.
Meanwhile, next season's La Liga race is expected to become more exciting as this year's champion, Atletico Madrid, which edged Barca in the close race this season, are also making moves to strengthen their roster.
Less than a week after absorbing a painful defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League finals, Atletico Madrid announced that they have signed Argentine teenage star Angel Correa to a five-year deal.
"Atletico Madrid and San Lorenzo de Almagro, Argentine primera division team, have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel Correa to our club, pending the young Argentine talent passing the relevant medical tests. The forward will then belong to our club for five seasons," the club said in a statement.
Correa, who has scored 12 goals in 61 games for San Lorenzo this season, was also linked to Barcelona, City, and Arsenal before the reigning La Liga champions announced the agreement.
