Boxing News 2014: Sergio Martinez Predicts Knockout Win Over Miguel Cotto On June 7 Showdown In New York

Sergio Martinez vows to prove Miguel Cotto wrong, promising a knockout victory in their upcoming title showdown on June 7 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Martinez, who will defend his WBC middleweight title, laughs off knockout prediction from Cotto's camp, particularly from trainer Freddie Roach, saying that if there's one fighter who can score a stoppage win, its him.

The 39-year-old champion said that he is the real power puncher between the two of them. He insisted that he is not worried about a possible wrong decision from the judges because he will not let the fight go the distance on Saturday, which will be his second title defense.

"I am the power-puncher out of the two of us," Martinez said via BoxingScene. "The most important factor in this fight, though, is the level of intelligence that I will use on Saturday. I am not worried about the judges being swayed in this bout or any questionable decisions; because there is no way that this fight is going the distance."

Martinez said that he is very motivated heading into his title defense, saying that he wants to prove his doubters wrong for saying that he is already over the hill.

The Argentine champion feels that the only reason why Cotto decided to face him is because the Puerto Rican challenger believes that he is already washed up, but Martinez reiterated that he still has a lot of gas left in his tank.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina native said that his previous fight against Martin Murray cannot be use to gauge his skills, saying that he fought hurt during their showdown in April last year.

"Miguel Cotto believes that I am ripe for the picking and that my age has finally caught up with me," Martinez said. "What he doesn't realize is that for the Martin Murray fight, I had many injuries going into the fight. I did not want to postpone the event because it was always a dream of mine to defend my title in Argentina so we as a team decided to go forward with the fight with Martin Murray."

Martinez fought with an ailing knee against Murray, and underwent surgery after fight, which forced him to sit out for more than a year.
