Brandon Rios is now back on the winning column after winning against Diego Chaves via disqualification in their 10-round welterweight showdown on Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
With the win, Rios is tipped to get another big fight as reports indicated that Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum already has a short list of possible opponents for Rios' next fight.
In an interview with BoxingScene, Arum said that they are looking at the possibility of facing Mike Alvarado for the third time. Rios had two action-packed showdown against Alvarado where he won via a seventh-round knockout in the first fight, but absorbed a close unanimous decision loss in their second showdown.
Aside from Alvarado, Arum also mentioned former WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov and former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley as possible opponents.
"He could fight Alvarado in a third fight. He could fight Provodnikov and he could fight Timothy Bradley," Arum said.
Arum said that a fight against Provodnikov is highly likely at this point, considering the fact that the former Russian champion will return to HBO in November.
Arum also added that he has a good relationship with Provodnikov's promoter, Artie Pelullo, but he conceded that the final decision will depend on Rios' manager, Cameron Dunkin.
"I have a good relationship with Artie, but the next fight depends on what Rios and Cameron want to do," Arum said.
Provodnikov, who lost his world junior lightweight title after absorbing a split decision loss to Chris Algieri in June, said on Saturday that he is very interested in facing the winner of the Rios-Chaves fight and also in a second fight with Timothy Bradley - a rematch of their well-documented showdown in March last year.
"I know that there is a possibility that I will be back in the ring in November and the opponents being considered are the winner of Rios vs. Chaves, the winner of Vargas vs. Novikov, as well as a rematch with Timothy Bradley. All these are great options for me and I'm curious to see who the winners are this weekend," Provodnikov said.
