Adrien Broner will be a heavy favorite heading into his next fight, but Emmanuel Taylor believes that he has what it takes to score an upset in their upcoming showdown on Sept. 6 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In an interview with Boxing News Online, Taylor, who has an 18-2 record with 12 of his victories coming by way of knockout, confidently said that Broner made a mistake in facing him.
"I will beat Broner; he has made a major mistake in taking this fight," Taylor said.
Taylor admitted, though, that beating Broner is easier said than done, but he remains confident that he can defy the tall odds as he is training hard for the fight, which is arguably the biggest of his young career.
The 23-year-old said that Broner moves very well on top of the ring, but Taylor insisted that 'The Problem' will have difficulties executing his fight plan because he is not used to going up against bigger fighters.
"He's probably the biggest name I'll have fought so far," Taylor said of Broner. "But he's used to fighting smaller guys; who he could push around and back up. He won't be able to do that with me. I expect a lot of movement, lateral movement, from Broner. I'm training too hard for this fight, man! A win over Broner would be amazing. I'm right on schedule with my training. Camp has been a whole lot of hard work."
Taylor said that he watched the fight between Broner and Marcos Maidana where the Ohio native lost his WBA welterweight title. Maidana managed to put a lot of pressure on Broner, but Taylor insisted that he will have his own fight plan in his upcoming fight and won't rely on what Broner's previous opponents did.
"I've seen the Marcos Maidana fight and the fight with Paulie [Malignaggi]. All I care about is doing what I have to do on the night to get the W. I think he's a great fighter. He's good at what he does. He talks a lot but from what I've seen he's a great fighter," Taylor said.
