Retired American football quarterback Jim Kelly reportedly has no remaining evidence of cancer after treatments in Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital.
During his football career, Jim Kelly played in the National Football League, for the Buffalo Bills and in the United States Football League for the Houston Gamblers. He was the third quarterback in the NFL draft in 1983. Jim Kelly then led his team to for succeeding Super Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
James Edward "Jim" Kelly, a Hall of Fame quarterback announced on June 3, 2013 that he has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his upper jaw. He then underwent a successful surgical procedure on June 7 and was reported cancer free. However, he had cancer recurrence and announced on March 14, 2014 after a follow-up test done at the Erie County Medical Center. He later began his radiation and chemotherapy treatment.
After Jim Kelly's medical reevaluation, his doctors announced last August 20, that the 54 year old retired quarterback player is free of cancer after undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation in spring.
Jim Kelly is also set for series of evaluation in the next coming weeks to determine if further treatments are necessary. Jim Kelly's wife, Jill, cheered the news on her Intragram post. She said on her post that their NYC checkup visit is encouraged and hopeful. The follow up tests which includes biopsies to confirm the eradication of cancer she then added.
After being diagnosed with oral cancer in mid-2013, Jim Kelly was in a weakened state succeeding a two-month series of treatments.
Jim Kelly's battle with cancer has been under the public's keen scrutiny and gathered thousands of supporters and well-wishers that outpoured on social media.
