Former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Kurt Angle is reportedly eyeing to return to WWE, but both Vince McMahon and Triple H are not optimistic about striking a deal with the former Olympic champion.
PW Mania reported on Wednesday that Angle, whose contract with TNA Impact Wrestling will expire this fall, reportedly called McMahon about a possible reunion.
However, McMahon told Angle that Triple H is now responsible for all personnel decisions. The former WWE champion then called Triple, but was reportedly "blown off" as well.
"Kurt Angle recently made inquiries about returning to WWE. Angle spoke to Triple H on the phone and was said to be pretty much blown off. Angle then called Vince McMahon but Vince told him that Triple H makes the talent decisions now," PW Mania wrote. "This led to Triple H being upset with Angle for trying to go over his head. This was all confirmed by Mark Madden, who had Angle on his show, and other sources."
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently revealed Angle's intention to retire in WWE, and is looking to get a contract similar to what Shawn Michaels received during the final years of his career.
"Angle is trying to get WWE executives to take him back on a contract that looks similar to the deal Shawn Michaels had near the end of his in-ring career. Michaels worked all the "big" shows, such as PPVs, but rarely worked house shows and was on limited TV," Wrestling Rumors reported.
However, Meltzer also revealed that WWE did not show strong interest in reuniting with their former star because of Angle's uncanny behavior over the past several years. McMahon is reportedly afraid that the former Olympic gold medalist could cause more harm than good once hired again.
"Angle has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for years, so much so that it has led to multiple arrests and stints in rehab. McMahon's anxieties about re-signing Angle exist due to his past struggles, where McMahon is terrified about having an Olympic gold medalist do something tragic to himself or someone else while under contract and representing the WWE," Wrestling Rumors added.
Angle has been informing people close to him about his return to WWE in September, but it appears that the comeback is out of his hands - at least for now.
