NFL Update: NFL Suspends Broncos’ Wes Welker For Policy Violation On Taking Performance Enhancing Drugs

After the most recent concussion news on NFL star Wes Welker, his career was again in jeopardy. Wes Welker was suspended for four games after violating the NFL's policy for the use of performance enhancing drugs.

Wes Welker, an American football wide receiver and return specialist for the Denver Broncos, won't be available for the start of the season after given a four-game suspension by the NFL. The suspension was announced by the team on Tuesday evening.

Two weeks ago, Wes Welker appealed for the said violation however was notified that he lost the appeal per NFL Media's Albert Breer. Wes Welker sent an email to The Denver Post saying that he was as shocked as everyone at the decision.

Wes Welker will be returning to the Broncos after his four-game suspension on their week 6 game against the New York Jets. Wes Welker's absence to the team seemed to have serious effects; the Denver Broncos' offense will reportedly suffer a serious blow.

Wes Welker is the second Bronco player suspended this season following the suspension of Kicker Matt Prater for a substance policy violation for recurrent alcohol desecrations. The Denver Broncos had been hopeful that Wes Welker would be cleared to play after suffering from concussion on August 23.

Wes Welker's positive test for banned amphetamine came in May, so the suspension doesn't hit the Broncos nerve as a surprise. His concussion and pending appeal allow the team to prepare to play in his absence and is said to be far well-equipped to handle the loss on the field than most squads. The most likely option for the offense is that wide out Emmanuel Sanders playing more in the slot while Andre Caldwell sees more time as an outside receiver. Wes Welker's absence could also lead to playing time for second-round draft pick Cody Latimer and veteran tight end Jacob Tamme.

The news on Wes Welker's suspension will be a big setback for the Broncos during a challenging season. His obligatory deferment will give him additional time to recover but won't help his chances on returning in 2015. Wes Welker is said to be a free agent at the end of the season.

Fans are indeed shocked and saddened by Wes Welker's mandatory departure following his suspension however remain optimistic that the NFL star will surpassed these career trials and will return better and improved on his future games.
