Katie Couric's mother dies of old age this week and the former 'Today' show host has confirmed the said news on Twitter.
According to the television personality's tweet, Katie Couric's mother died at the old age of 91 just last Monday, Sept. 1 - just a couple of days before 'Fashion Police' host Joan Rivers passed away.
"My heart is broken. I lost my mom and best friend. We love you and miss you, Mom/Granny," Couric said of her mother, Elinor Hene, on Twitter, alongside a black and white snap of her late mom.
The Yahoo News Global anchor then continued her tribute to her mother on Facebook.
"She loved fiercely and was fiercely loved," the 52-year-old wrote. "We miss you, Mom/Granny. Elinor H. Couric 1923-2014."
It can be noted that before Katie Couric's mother died, she stayed in her Virginia home where Katie and her siblings grew up.
In a 2012 interview for Woman's Day, the 'Katie' host gushed about her life when she had to take care of her widowed mother after her father, John Couric, passed away in June 2011 of multiple complications from Parkinson's disease at the old age of 90.
"My mother's day-to-day care took on a new urgency after my father passed away last year," she said at the time. "Now Mom is living alone, in the same house in Virginia where we grew up...it's full of 55 years' worth of memories, and the thought of leaving it and the life she shared with my dad is understandably overwhelming."
During the same interview, Katie Couric revealed that her mother was not sure if living in a nursing home was the best thing for her.
"There are no easy answers," the television journalist said. "mom sacrificed for us her whole life, and we want to help her age with dignity, as gracefully as possible."
Katie Couric's mother's death comes just a few months after the veteran journalist and financier John Molner tied the knot in June.
