Pierce Brosnan, 61-year old Irish actor took the stage and spoke about losing his loved ones at the Stand Up to Cancer telethon.
Pierce Brosnan shared his struggles as he came face to face with cancer when it robbed the lives of his first wife Cassandra in 1991 and her daughter Charlotte last year. The James Bond actor took the stage at the Stand Up To Cancer telecast and bore how the despicable disease has affected his life.
He spoke to the crowd about how the treacherous disease claimed the lives of his first wife and adopted daughter. Both women died after combating ovarian cancer. Pierce Brosnan endured the pain once again as he opened up at the telethon on Friday held at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. He didn't hesitate on the details at the show.
Cassandra Harris, Pierce Brosnan's first wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died at the age of 43 in 1991. His daughter Charlotte Brosnan also acceded to the disease last year. He said that to watch someone you love have his or her life eaten away bit by bit by the insidious disease that part of your sorrow becomes an unforgettable part of your soul. He also added that he held the generous, strong and beautiful hand of his first wife Cassie as ovarian cancer took her life.
There couldn't have been a dry eye on the audience when actor Pierce Brosnan described himself as the man who has watched the women he loved so much fight with great pain. He also shared as her daughter underwent from the same fate last year. He told the crowd that he held the hand of his funny, wonderful daughter Charlotte before her, too, died from this wretched hereditary disease.
Pierce Brosnan also announced a collaboration for what he tagged as the "first ovarian dream team" with Stand Up To Cancer, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
Other famous celebrities were also present on the event. The other Stand Up To Cancer supporters were Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie Couric, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Kerry Washington, Anna Kendrick, Rob Lowe, Eric Stonestreet, Hailee Steinfeld, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello. Actor Kevin Bacon and Dav Grohl of Foo Fighters also spoke on stage while Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande and The Dave Matthews performed for the crowd.
The James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan concluded with a statement saying: "Let's build that future where we hold our loved ones hands, watch them grow old as it should be after a long life fully lived."
