Giancarlo Stanton Update: National League’s Home Run Leader Suffers Injuries; Awaits MVP Fate

American outfielder for the Miami Marlins of the Major League Baseball, Giancarlo Stanton suffered injuries on Thursday night. The NL's home run leader is waiting for his MVP fate after hitting the longest home run in Marlins Park history.

On September 11, Giancarlo Stanton was hit in the face with a pitch from Milwaukee Brewers' pitcher Mike Fiers and was taken off the field on a stretcher.

The NL MVP prospect Giancarlo Stanton slumped to the ground after Milwaukee Brewers' right-hander Mike Fiers hit him under the left eye by a fastball in the fifth inning. He was bleeding from the face and was taken off the field in an ambulance on Thursday night.

As per the Marlins' statement, the major league RBI leader Giancarlo Stanton was being treated at a nearby hospital for a facial cut after being hit. He was also to undergo X-rays and a CT scan. His father was reportedly at the game and rode with him to the hospital.

MLB.com reported that Giancarlo suffered facial lacerations requiring stitches with multiple facial fractures and dental damage. The incident likewise ignited a bench-clearing brawl. It was ruled out that NL's home run leader was the one that swung at the ball as a self-defense move trying to get out of the way of the pitch. The brawl didn't appear that punches have been thrown and when order was reinstated, the umpires evicted Miami's Casey McGehee and Marlin's manager Mike Redmond.

Meanwhile, the All-star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton tops the NL with 37 home runs and is a top candidate for the NL MVP award. He also tied Dan Uggla's franchise record for most home runs in the Marlins' history with his 154th dinger. Giancarlo has played in 631 big-league games spanning parts of five big-league seasons.

The 24-year old outfielder Giancarlo Stanton's career is on the rise and is the leader of the Marlins' franchise. As NL's frontrunner for the upcoming MVP award, he expressed through USA Today Sports telephone interview that it is not so much about the numbers that make him doable MVP candidate but it all about the winning.

After suffering from serious injuries, Giancarlo Stanton's fans are hoping for his fast recovery and will wait for his return in the field. And as for his MVP fate, we'll just wait and see.
