Microsoft is reportedly looking to stop using the Nokia and Windows brand in their marketing plan for the Holiday season, as the tech giant makes a step toward rebranding its smartphones products.
GeeksOn Gadgets reportedly obtained a confident internal report from Microsoft, which details the company's upcoming rebranding. Instead of Windows Phone and Nokia brand for mobile OS, Windows will be exclusively used for all its marketing materials with the intention of launching Lumia as its 'Hero brand."
"Now we can confirm that Microsoft will be completely dropping the "Nokia" branding from their devices, leaving "Lumia" as the hero brand for upcoming devices," GeeksOn Gaadgets reported.
Furthermore, the report stated Lumia 830 and Lumia 740 are set to be the final two smartphones carrying it's original logo, as future devices will hold the name of Microsoft and Lumia moving forward.
"In fact we understand that the Lumia 830 and Lumia 730 will be the final two devices to launch with "Nokia" branded on the phone. Future devices will most likely carry the "Microsoft" name along with "Lumia"
Microsoft bought Nokia from its former CEO Stephen Elop and its group for €5.44 billion (US$7.17 billion) last September 2013. Elop and some of his executives joined Microsoft's new subsidiary to compete with other smartphone rivals such as Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy Series in the market.
As for Windows Phone, its logo will also likely be dropped as well to usher a new era in Microsoft's smartphone business.
"A source with knowledge of the plans, that this is part of the preparation to leave the "Windows Phone" logo behind, as part of a gradual phase out of the Windows Phone name (and OS) which will merge with the desktop version of Windows in the upcoming updates (i.e. no Windows Phone 9)," GeeksOn Gadgets reported.
