A JetBlue Airways flight travelling from California to Texas on Thursday was forced to land less than thirty minutes after taking off as one of its engine allegedly shut down.
Reports indicate that smoke filled the cabin in a few seconds after a blast from the plane's right engine. The terrified passengers, who were reportedly provided oxygen masks, told the press that they were convinced the plane was going to crash.
One passenger revealed that he made a video recording to inform his family of his fate as he sat among his fellow travelers, who were all reportedly terrified in the thick smoke that made it virtually impossible to see.
Luckily, the pilots of the Airbus A320 were able to steer it to land safely. Officials have revealed that all the passengers in the flight are alright, except about three people who sustained minor injuries in the heat of the incident.
Airport officials say the pilots detected a fire in one of the engines of the plane after they had taken off and attempted to contain it with a fire extinguisher, but to no avail. This allegedly forced them to make an emergency landing and passengers were evacuated through a slide.
It appears the airport authorities thought that the plane may explode, as passengers say they were told to go 'as far away from the plane as possible.'
Reports indicate that this impromptu landing caused some departure delays at the airport, but officials say things have since returned back to normal.
JetBlue flights are notorious for landing prematurely due to technical problems. This is the third emergency landing involving a plane from this airliner's fleet this year.
