The San Francisco 49ers avoided absorbing their third straight defeat, while Teddy Bridgewater led the Minnesota Vikings to a win in his first start in the National Football League.
The 49ers leaned on the excellent game from Frank Gore as they held on to a 26-21 win over previously-unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Gore had a career-high 55-yard touchdown and rushed for 119 yards to tally his first 100-yard performance this year, while also putting the clamps on Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, who completed just 21-of-43 passes for 195 yards with two interceptions.
Colin Kaepernick also had an excellent night for the 49ers as he finished 17-of-30 passes for 218 yards, while also delivering touchdown passes to Stevie Johnson and Phil Dawson and kicking three field goals in the match.
With the win, the 49ers, who are coming off a 28-20 loss to the Chicago Bears and 23-14 setback against the Arizona Cardinals, avoided their first three-game skid under coach Jim Harbaugh.
Meanwhile, rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater impressed in his first NFL start as he led the Vikings to a 41-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at the TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Bridgewater, who started after Matt Cassel was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken left foot, completed 19-of-30 passes for 317 yards and also ran for a touchdown.
However, Bridgewater, the 32nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, failed to finish the match as he was carted off the field with left ankle sprain.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said that the 21-year-old quarterback will undergo MRI, but he is convinced that the former Louisville standout will be available for their game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday.
