Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is confident that Radamel Falcao will continue to make an impact for the Red Devils after the striker scored his first goal with the club.
Falcao, who was acquired by the Red Devils via a one-year loan deal with AS Monaco, netted the game-winner during their 2-1 victory against Everton on Sunday.
The 28-year-old striker failed to secure a goal in his first three appearances for Manchester United, but he ended the drought when he pounced on a missed shot from Angel Di Maria.
"He needed that goal," Van Gaal said via ESPN FC. "I have talked with him because I thought he was forcing himself too much to score a goal. He's a player who will normally score a goal every match and has had to wait so long. I can understand that, but now he has scored it will be better after the international break."
Falcao, who scored three goals for AS Monaco before moving to Manchester United, also admitted that he needed that first goal to regain his confidence, saying that there was so much pressure on his shoulder after failing to net one in his first few appearances for the Red Devils.
"All strikers need goals, and for me there was a little bit of relief to score my first goal," Falcao said via Manchester United website. "I hope to score many in the future. It was amazing that my first goal was at Old Trafford, I enjoyed it with all the fans and I want to say thank you to God, my team mates, all the staff and the coaches."
Van Gaal previously said that they will look to acquire Falcao permanently after this season. They have to spend allegedly around £43 to do, and Falcao is hoping that Manchester United will break the bank for him.
"Me and my family are happy here, and we would like to stay for many years at Manchester United," Falcao said.
