Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that he is still unsure on who he intends to face in his next fight, but the unbeaten champion said that he is open to facing Amir Khan.
Mayweather, whose father has been talking about a possible fight between the reigning pound-for-pound king and Khan, said in an interview that he understands why Floyd Sr. wants him to face the Briton.
And in the event the fight is arranged next year, Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record, confidently said that he will dominate and "punish" Khan.
"My Dad is desperate for me to take - the Khan fight - he just wants me to shut the kid up and put him down," Mayweather said via BoxingScene. "My Dad doesn't like fighters trash talking his son - but he knows as well as I do that if the fight happens - then I am going to punish him. If he thinks he can trash talk me and get away with it he needs to think again."
Mayweather added that he believes Khan, who has a 29-3 record with 19 knockouts, is a good fighter, but the 37-year-old champion reiterated that he knows how to beat the Bolton, England native.
And while most fans have been calling for a Mayweather-Khan showdown, the Grand Rapids, Michigan native said that he won't let anybody dictate who will he fight next, saying that he will pick whoever he thinks is the most deserving opponent for him.
"I have always said that nobody has any right just to get a fight with me," Mayweather said. "I am nobody's pay day; I am nobody's meal ticket. I take fights that I believe will test me, and will put on a good show for the fans. I ain't ever taken a fight just because somebody has been running off their mouth. If Khan gets his fight - it will be because I think he deserves a shot."
Khan scored a convincing unanimous decision win against Luis Collazo in May, while Mayweather successfully defended his World Boxing Association welterweight title along with his World Boxing Council welterweight and light middleweight crowns in his rematch with Marcos Maidana last month.
