Mexico will look to extend their impressive run when they collide with Panama in an international friendly match on Sunday at La Corregidora.
Since losing to Netherlands in the round-of-16 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Mexico has not surrendered a goal and they will look to sustain that run against their rivals.
Mexico, 16th ranked team based on the updated FIFA World Rankings, is coming off a 2-0 win against Honduras on Thursday. They also battled Chile in a goalless draw last month, which was followed by a 1-0 win against Bolivia.
Mexico coach Miguel Herrera, who has been getting positive reviews for his work for El Tri over the past several months, had nothing but praises for his squad after not surrendering a goal in their last three friendly matches.
"I really liked the personality of the team have to see how young people are behaving with the team," Herrera said via Goal. "The team had possession of the ball and the fans behaved great. We're happy."
Herrera made changes for Sunday's match, picking Alfredo Talavera to protect the goal despite Guillermo Ochoa's impressive performance against Honduras.
With Ochoa out of Sunday's match, Herrera is also expected to pick a new captain, most analysts are convinced that Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is the obvious pick to wear the armband against Panama.
"It seems a no-brainer," Tom Marshall of ESPN said of picking a captain for Mexico. "Mexico has a player that has scored 37 times in 67 games, has featured for two of the world's biggest clubs and behaves in an exemplary manner both on and off the pitch: Hernandez. The other possibilities could be Hector Herrera, Talavera or Layun, but it would be a slap in the face if it isn't Chicharito."
Hernandez is coming off a strong performance for Mexico as he netted the opening goal against Honduras, which gave them the luxury of controlling the pace of the match.
All eyes will also be on Hernandez, who already netted 37 goals for El Tri, as he is now just one goal away from moving up to joint second in Mexico's all-time scoring list. Cuauhtemoc Blanco is currently second on the list with 38 goals, while Jared Borgetti is on top with 46 goals.
The Mexico-Panama match will kick off at 5:00 PM ET. It will be shown live on ESPN2 and through online live streaming via WatchESPN.
