Renee Zellweger 2014: ‘Bridget Jones’ Star Reprises Role In Sequel Movie But Costar Hugh Grant Will Not

This 2014 might be a comeback year for Renee Zellweger. The 45-year old actress will reprise her role as Bridget Jones in the latest sequel of "Bridget Jones Diary." However, Zellweger's costar Hugh Grant will not be in the movie.

Renee Zellweger is an American actress, producer and voice artist who first gained extensive attention for her role in "Jerry Maguire" alongside actor Tom Cruise. She rose to fame for her role as Bridget Jones in the comedy film "Bridget Jones' Diary." According to Celebrity Net Worth, Zellweger's wealth is $45 million.

In the span of Renee Zellweger's career, she has earned an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a BAFTA Award. She was named Hasty Pudding's Woman of the Year in 2009 and established herself as one of the highest-paid Hollywood actresses as of 2007. She was previously married to singer Kenny Chesney in 2005 but they separated after just 4 months of marriage. In September 2010, it was reported that Zellweger and actor Bradley Cooper had been in a relationship for over a year. However, on March 18, 2011, People Magazine announced the two had split.

Meanwhile, this 2014 seemed to be the return of actress Renee Zellweger and the news about another "Bridget Jones' Diary" sequel has intensified. But as Bridget Jones' actors Colin Firth, who played the character Mark Darcy, and Zellweger reprise their roles in the sequel, one character seemed to be missing.

According to ET Online, Hugh Grant, the 54-year-old actor who played the role of Daniel Cleaver will not reprise his character on the film. The actor confirmed in an interview with Free Radio in the West Midlands that he won't be reuniting with the other cast members in the third installment of the franchise.

"I decided not to do it," Grant stated. "But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different -- well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."

The Guardian reported that Grant was unhappy with the sequel's screenplay, which was being put together with the help of creator Helen Fielding. The sequel was reportedly due to see Jones in her 40s and keen for a child. Grant's character would have joined his rival for Bridget's affections, Firth's Mark Darcy. The Sun also reported that Emma Thompson has been drafted in to rewrite the film's screenplay.

"Bridget Jones' Diary" was a critical and commercial success in 2001, which broke box-office hits worldwide.

Renee Zellweger will not only make a silver screen comeback through the "Bridget Jones" sequel. She is set to return in the film "The Whole Truth" alongside actor Keanu Reeves, which is about a defense attorney who gets his teenage client acquitted of murdering his wealthy father. Meanwhile, Grant is currently promoting his new romantic-comedy film "The Rewrite" along with Bella Heathcote.

Renee Zellweger's comeback has been highly-anticipated since she was last seen on the big-screen in 2010. And with her new and upcoming movies, her acting break will be finally over.
