"Bill Cosby rapes women," a comedian said during a stand-up show in Trocadero in Philadelphia. Hannibal Buress told his audience last Thursday that Bill Cosby is a phoney who does not have the right to look down on others and dole out advice.
The New York based comedian, cited 14 allegations of rape leveled against the 77-years-old entertainer to defend why he said Bill Cosby rapes women. He urged people to "Google Bill Cosby rape," if anyone thought he was making it up. He joked that the results the search engine would provide would definitely be "more results than Hannibal Buress."
"I can talk down on you because I had a successful sitcom. Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches," Buress said.
In the 1980's, William Henry "Bill" Cosby Jr became famous for producing and starring in the popular sitcom The Cosby Show; as a well grounded father called Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable. The show, which aired weekly on NBC, became one of the most successful sitcoms in America, running for 8 seasons from 1984 to 1992.
Bill Cosby, who holds a doctorate in education, has been widely criticized for his controversial views on African-American parenting and education.
Buress said he dislikes Cosby's public persona which presents him as an old African-American full of wisdom. "Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the 80s," the comedian said.
Bill Cosby rape allegations made news in 2006 after a woman filled a law suit against the multiple award winning actor and comedian for drugging and raping her in his home. But the story died after Bill Cosby's lawyers reached an out of court settlement with his accuser. Reports indicate that about 13 young women were prepared to be witnesses in the case and all claim to have been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby.
Bill Cosby rape accusations have not evinced any official response from the veteran actor and comedian. But Buress has noted that even if the charges turn out to be false, it would be "weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns..I've done this bit on stage, and people don't believe. People think I'm making it up."
