A Moscow plane crash video circulating online is purported to display the gruesome accident that led to the death of the CEO of Total, Christophe de Margerie, after his plane collided with a snow plough, southwest of the Russian capital late on Monday.
The Moscow plane crash video surfaces as politicians and top business leaders all over the world are sending condolences pouring to the family of Mr. Margerie.
Reports indicate that the French national had been in Moscow to meet the leaders of the oil-rich state, where Total has an extensive operational network. He was reportedly scheduled to fly back to Paris on a private jet from the Vnukovo airport before the accident, which is shown on the Moscow plane crash video transpired.
The Russian Investigative Committee has disclosed that the driver of the snow plough, which collided with the jet in the Moscow plane crash video, was drunk at the time of the accident.
The committee has also revealed that "Among the chief versions for what happened, investigators are looking at a mistake by the air traffic controllers and the actions of the driver of the snow plough. Apart from that, they will also check the version of poor weather conditions and mistake by the crew."
Reports indicate that all 4 passengers on Mr. Margerie's plane died. Meanwhile, the driver of the snow plough escaped virtually unscathed. Russian authorities say the collision occurred as the plane prepared to take off. A criminal investigation has been launched into the incident.
Total has confirmed the death of its chairman and CEO in a statement, in which the company also expressed its "deep regret and great sadness."
