Three Surfers Die in Cornwall Beach Rip Current Accident [VIDEO]

Three surfers died in Cornwall's Porth Mawgan beach near Newquay on Sunday after being caught in a powerful rip current.

Local police have confirmed that the three surfers died in Cornwall after being rescued from the sea. Reports indicate that the casualties include two males and a female. About four children reportedly caught in the sea current with the casualties have been pronounced safe.

It is unclear how the three surfers died in the Cornwall beach. Eyewitnesses say some parts of the sea were particularly rough on Sunday afternoon and lifeguards - who operate between April and September - were not available.

Nonetheless, many have praised the rapid response of the police, lifeboat and helicopter rescue mission. Reports indicate that it took about ten to fifteen minutes from when the incident was reported for the authorities to show up to the scene. But these efforts couldn't save the three surfers who died in Cornwall.

Lifeboat operations manager, Gareth Horner, has been quoted by the Telegraph explaining that "Mawgan Porth is a dangerous beach. We don't know the exact circumstances or the ability of the people that were rescued today."

According to Horner, one of the three people who died in the Cornwall beach may have ventured into the sea to assist the others who were apparently in trouble.

The identities of the three surfers who died today have not been released. There are some speculations that they are tourists.

Cornwall and Devon Police Superintendent Jim Pearce has noted that "This is a tragic incident and our condolences go out to the families of those involved."

The police have revealed that two of the victims - a male and a female in their forties - are from Cornwall. But the third victim, who is reportedly in his fifties, is not from the area.

Local sources say there were no other incidents after the three surfers died in Cornwall beach on Sunday. This is the second such accident this week. Earlier on Saturday, a young man is reported to have drowned in the same beach.
