Eric Frein manhunt - Pennsylvania police have announced on Monday that an unmanned balloon will be used in the Eric Frein manhunt.
Eric Frein is accused of ambushing and killing a Trooper and fatally wounding another. An assortment of law enforcement officials have been searching for him for about a month now.
The experimental balloon is just one of several technological tools police are using in the Eric Frein manhunt.
According to reports the device, which works like a weather balloon, would be unmanned. Reports indicate that it will be fitted with a camera to capture footage of the Poconos forest, where authorities suspect the thought to be hiding.
Police have been looking for Eric Frein who is accused for ambushing and killing Trooper Bryon Dickson and fatally would Trooper Alex Douglass. The 31-years-old suspect went missing after shooting at the two officers last month outside the Blooming Grove state police barracks.
The Mylar balloon was donated to the Pennsylvania police by the Ohio Department of Transport on Monday.
The Ohio Department of Transport reportedly uses the balloon, which is filled with helium, to carry out traffic studies and monitor building sites, among other relevant undertakings.
Tom Kelly, spokesman for the police, says the large balloon would provide cops with a similar technology as traditional aircrafts at a fraction of the cost.
Reports indicate that police chose the balloon due to its silence - in comparison to helicopters and other aircrafts that were previously been used in the Eric Frein's manhunt.
Monday was the 45th day of the Eric Frein manhunt. Reports indicate that the suspect is a self taught survivalist and military enthusiast. He has since been put on the FBI's ten most wanted list.
The Eric Frein manhunt currently costs the state about $500,000 weekly.
