Many celebrities have become victims of the pressures of Hollywood's standard and nature when it comes to beauty and aging. However, Julia Roberts braved the controversy and claimed she may have risked her career by not undergoing plastic surgery.
Julia Roberts' statement came into light when Renée Zellweger stirred rumors about her fresh-faced but slightly different appearance at the red carpet during the 2014 Elle Women in Hollywood Awards in Beverly Hills, California. Us Weekly reported that for Roberts, there was no greater surgical risk than not undergoing plastic surgery at all.
Roberts made the comments in an interview with UK's You Magazine. The 47-year-old actress is also to promote her role as Lancôme's ambassadress of beauty.
"By Hollywood standards, I guess I've already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift," Julia Roberts said. "But I've told Lancôme that I want to be an ageing model - so they have to keep me for at least five more years until I'm over 50."
While Julia Roberts risked her successful career by staying away from plastic surgery, the Oscar-winning actress has found peace in middle age and shared her own discovery of anti-aging techniques. According to The Guardian, Roberts told the British publication that by "studying yoga on a more conscious level" and removing the clutter from her life, it maintained her level of normalcy as she ages.
"It's about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally," she said. "There's a lightness to my life now - an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That's happiness."
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Renée Zellweger grabbed media's attention last week as she appeared at an event in Beverly Hills with strikingly different facial features. As per The New York Daily News, several assumptions said that the actress underwent plastic surgery, a speculation she denied herself.
"I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," Zellweger stated.
Renée Zellweger and Julia Roberts are among the many celebrities that are facing an endless pressure on women to look forever young under the spotlight. And while Roberts is the latest name to discuss about the rising aesthetic scrutiny in showbiz, the mother of three will not take a risk and undergo plastic surgery in a quest for eternal perfection.
