Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo remains doubtful for their 2014-15 NBA season opener against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday at TD Garden.
Rondo underwent surgery to repair a broken left hand and was initially ruled out for the start of the season, but the superstar point guard has been doing well in his recovery.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens said that Rondo will undergo one more test on Tuesday, but he added that their training staff is optimistic that test results will be favorable.
"I think it's more about his comfort level right now," Stevens said via ESPN Boston. "I think [the trainers] feel like he's progressed well and healed appropriately. I just asked him what he wants me to say and he said, 'Tell [the media] I'm 83 percent.' I said I'll just tell them you're five-sixths of the way there."
Regardless of the results of the imaging test on Tuesday, Rondo sounded like that the final decision will be made by him on Wednesday, saying that he doesn't want to play when he knows that he will not be able to give his all against the Nets.
"I make the call at the end of the day, as far as my comfort level," Rondo said. "I don't want to have any second thoughts when I go out there and play."
When asked when he is planning to make the decision, Rondo jokingly said that he will be a "nap-time decision" for the match against the Nets.
"When I wake up from my nap, I'll let [reporters] know. Around 4:30," Rondo said. "If I sleep really, really well tonight, and [Wednesday] afternoon with my nap, I'll let you know how I'm feeling."
Rondo averaged 11.7 points to go along with 9.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, but was limited to just 30 games as the Celtics took a cautious approach after the eight-year veteran recovered from an ACL tear.
