Devon Alexander reiterated that he is focused on his upcoming fight against Amir Khan and not about a possible showdown against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year.
Alexander, who will face Khan in a 12-round fight on December 13 in Las Vegas, said in an interview that he is not yet thinking about future fights because he is focused on preparing for his upcoming bout against the Briton.
"I'm solely focused on Amir Khan," Alexander said via BoxingScene. "Right now that is the only fight that matters. He is next up and I'm working hard in the gym for him. I'm not even thinking about fighting Floyd"
Sources indicated that the winner of the Khan-Alexander match will likely get a shot against Mayweather in May 2015. But even if he wins against Khan, Alexander recently said that he is convinced the reigning pound-for-pound king won't face him because he is a black fighter.
"For me personally, Floyd looks at a fighter who is going to pose the least threat to him," Alexander said. "Every black that Floyd has faced, has given him some type of trouble. I think every black fighter is going to make him think in there. I don't think he wants to think anymore. I think he wants to know what he's going to get when he gets in there, he don't want no surprises."
The 27-year-old Missouri native pointed out that Mayweather had troubles facing back fighter before, citing previous opponents of the unbeaten champion like Zab Judah, Shane Mosley and DeMarcus Corley.
"Zab was handling him with the jab [and hurt him to the] head, Shane hurt him, you got Chop Chop who hurt him," Alexander added. "All of the black fighters that he fought, did something to make Floyd say 'oh man, I don't want to fight anymore black fighters.' That's what I see."
Khan, on the other hand, made it no secret that he will look to score a big win against Alexander to get Mayweather's attention. The Bolton, England native has been chasing Mayweather since late last year before Mayweather opted to face Marcos Maidana in May, which was followed by a rematch last month.
