As the world celebrates the Halloween holiday this weekend, let's take a closer look to one of the most spine-chilling horror movie villain character, the Annabelle Doll. The nationwide release of its movie adaption on Oct. 3 has rattled its audiences through the creepy-as-hell storyline.
The movie adaptation is considered as one of the highest-grossing horror films of all time. But what is the mystery about the Annabelle Doll that has sparked curiosity among its viewers? The doll really does exist and is currently residing in the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut.
The chilling facts about the infamous Annabelle Doll are provided by lead paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorrain Warren in their New England Society for Psychic Research Web site. The International Business Times reported the doll is enclosed in a wooden case in the museum, with a sign saying, "Warning: Do Not Touch."
According to the Web site, a mother bought an antique Raggedy Ann Doll from a hobby store in 1970. The doll was a gift for her daughter's birthday. At the time, Donna, her daughter was a college student preparing to graduate with her nursing degree and resided in a tiny apartment with her roommate, Angie.
Donna was said to be pleased with the doll and placed it on her bed as a decoration. A few days later, Donna and Angie noticed something very bizarre and eerie about the doll. The doll could move on its own. But Annabelle does not only move but could write as well.
After some chilling experiences, Donna and Angie decided to seek a professional advice. Donna was then introduced to the spirit of a young girl that resided on the property before the apartments were built. The 7-year-old young girl, Annabelle Higgins, was found lifeless in the field upon which the apartment complex now stands.
The account of Lou about the doll made the girls believe its evil nature. Lou, a friend of Donna and Angie, was reportedly attacked by the doll on several occasions. After contacting a priest to help her with the matter, Donna was then advised to speak with the Warrens.
Paranormal experts, The Warrens, took interest in the case and immediately made contact with Donna about the doll. According to the paranormal investigation, the doll itself was not possessed but influenced by an "inhuman presence." As explained by the Warrens, spirits do not possess inanimate objects, instead they possess people.
Based on the experts' investigation, an inhuman spirit can attach itself to a place or object. And this is what happened to the Annabelle Doll. The said spirit created a false impression of it being alive to gain attention. The Warrens concluded the spirit do not seek to stay attached to the doll, but was looking to possess a human host. They felt it was appropriate to have an exorcism recitation blessing to cleanse the apartment.
Inside the Occult Museum, the Warrens had built a special case for Annabelle, where the doll resides to this day. Ed Warren cautions "not to challenge evil, for no man are more powerful than Satan."
