After her amazingly stunning Instagram photo on Oct. 28, Jennifer Lopez is once again under the spotlight when she admitted in an interview that her relationship with actor Ben Affleck was her first big heartbreak. In the latest Today Show interview with Maria Shriver, she revealed her pain after her breakup with her "Gigli" costar.
Jennifer Lopez may have not known about true heartbreak, but in 2004, she felt devastated about the pain it caused her when she parted ways with Ben Affleck. The singer's admission came after an interview about J. Lo's new memoir entitled, "True Love." The interview is scheduled to air on Nov. 3 and 4.
Jennifer Lopez shared the heartbreak she experienced when she and Ben Affleck ended their relationship was a defining moment of her life. And according to The Daily Mail, J. Lo considers Affleck to be her first true love.
Jennifer Lopez had been twice married before her high-profile romance with actor-director Ben Affleck. The couple got engaged in November 2002. Their relationship grabbed media interests and they were called as "Bennifer." J. Lo and Affleck became a well-known super couple in the press and popular culture. However, the power couple ended their romance in January 2004.
After Lopez's broken engagement with Affleck in 2004, the "American Idol" judge rebounded on another man. And by June of the same year, Us Weekly reported J. Lo married her third husband Marc Anthony, with whom she later had twins, 6-year-olds Max and Esme.
"Right, you're absolutely right. It was probably my first big heartbreak," J. Lo admitted during the interview about her relationship with Ben Affleck.
But when asked about the 45-year-old singer's quick move after her heartbreaking split with "Gone Girl" actor Ben Affleck in 2004 and marrying Marc Anthony after almost 6 months since the breakup, Jennifer Lopez revealed she needed someone to turn to.
"And to have one of my best friends who I'd known for years, who I actually love and did chemistry with, come into my life and say 'I'm here...' What you need to know is, nobody can save you or heal you," she said. "Only you can do that for you."
Jennifer Lopez also admitted that she has gotten better about the heartbreak since her breakup with Ben Affleck, but old habits die hard.
"It's still a work in progress for me. It's how you feel as a child, you know, being a middle child and kind of being invisible sometimes, or, you know, trying to get the attention," J. Lo clarified.
"So what did I do? I overachieved," she continued. "I was the one who ran track and I won medals every weekend. Or I was the one who would go on the show and steal the show. And that would give me confidence. But there was a part of me that just wanted love, that felt like she wasn't worthy of the love."
Jennifer Lopez's first heartbreak with Ben Affleck made her realized one vital thing, she learned that when she falls in love, it's usually too hard and too fast. She revealed that when she feels things very intensely, she is easily swept up in the thrill of a new romance.
"As cool as it is in the beginning, it has to sustain beyond that," J. Lo explained why such relationships often ended.
In spite of the heartbreaking split, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck remained on good terms. Last year, Affleck said they email each other occasionally and that he respects and likes her still. But with their romance that ended a decade ago, Affleck and J. Lo have definitely moved on in each of their lives.
