Wayne Static dead: Wayne Richard Wells popularly known as Wayne Static has died on Saturday evening at the age of 48.
The Static X founder and former front man's shocking death was announced in a press statement issued by his representatives at FIXT Publicity. With Wayne Static dead, heavy metal rock fans have lost a legend and major creative force.
Although the cause of the singer's death has not been confirmed, reports indicate that Wayne Static may have died from an overdose.
Since his band, Static X, announced the death of the multi-platinum artist through a Facebook post, 'Wayne Static dead' has been trending on social media and hundreds of metal and hard rock fans have expressed their shock and condolences at his passing.
"RIP Wayne...This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from overdoses. I'm serious, addiction is real and takes fools out. No one is invincible." Papa Roach said.
He went on to say "I know drugs and partying are part of the 'rock 'n' roll lifestyle', but damn, how many more gotta die???"
"He's a legend, a great guy and songwriter. It sucks to lose a friend to something you wish you could've helped him for, "Dino Cazares of Fear Factory said.
Wayne Static, who was known for his eccentric music and towering hairstyle, was scheduled co-headline a US tour with Powerman 5000 and American Head Charge in Waterloo, Iowa on November 6th. It is unclear if promoters have started refunding tickets for the Wayne Static tour.
Wayne Static is one of the original founders of Static X in 1994. Before that, he was part of a band called Deep Blue Dream. Wayne Static released six studio albums with Static X in the decade-long existence of the group. He also created a highly successful solo album - Pighammer - which cemented his place as one of the all time metal greats. In 2013, Wayne and his band split over a dispute about rights to the name Static X.
With Wayne Static dead, it is unclear how the group the will celebrate the 15th anniversary of their highly successful debut album Wisconsin Death Trip.
