Novak Djokovic scored a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory against Milos Raonic in the final of the 2014 Paris Masters on Sunday, making sure that he will have a great momentum heading into the ATP World Final.
Djokovic was simply too much for Raonic on Sunday as the top-seeded Serb looked very determined to run away with the victory to claim his second straight Paris Masters title.
"To be able to win it two years in a row with the final tournament of the year ahead of me, it's great," Djokovic said via ESPN. "I played the best match of the entire week today when it was most needed."
Djokovic, who also stamped his class in Paris by not dropping even a single set for the entire tournament, is now in a very good position to finish on top of the world rankings by the end of the season.
The Serb tennis superstar was only 490 points ahead of Roger Federer heading into the finals, but Djokovic's victory in the 2014 Paris Masters virtually ended Federer's bid to overtake Djokovic.
"I see it better now than one week ago, that's for sure," Djokovic said. "Every match that I play and win gets me closer to holding No. 1 at the end of the year."
Raonic displayed his powerful serve anew on Sunday, but was simply outclassed by Djokovic. He managed to score eight straight points in the first set, but he failed to take advantage of three break points, which could have changed the story of the final showdown.
"I thought he played some great tennis, neutralized my serve well," Raonic said. "He didn't really give me too many looks. Even on the break chances I had, he played them well. He just made life difficult for me today."
Djokovic, who has now won 20 Masters titles including three in Paris, also said after the match that his new-born baby gave him a big lift in the tournament.
"It's beautiful to win my first match after becoming a father," Djokovic said via BBC. "I played my best match of the week. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to stand here with the trophy."
