The New York Yankees failed to make the MLB Playoffs for the second straight year and they need all help that they can get this offseason after their disappointing performance this year. Here are the free agents that the Yankees might pursue this offseason:
Andrew Miller
Andrew Miller will be a great addition to the Yankees bullpen should they succeed in acquiring him this offseason. In 73 games with the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox last season, the 29-year-old had a 2.02 ERA and 0.80 WHIP - 1.35 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in 23 games after getting traded to the Orioles.
While the Yankees have tendered a qualifying offer to David Robertson, the closer might still bolt out of New York. And if he does, Miller will be a great replacement as he will likely agree to a three-year deal worth $24 million, according to George King of NY Post.
Jon Lester
The Yankees starting rotation was badly hit by injuries last season. Ivan Nova missed the majority of the season after undergoing elbow surgery. Masahiro Tanaka also missed a huge number of games due to partially torn UCL, while CC Sabathia failed to return later in the season due to a knee injury.
Adding Jon Lester would solidify the Yankees rotation after the 30-year-old 6-4 with a 2.35 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 11 starts for the Oakland Athletics. The market value of Lester is not yet set, though, and several teams have already expressed interest in signing the 30-year-old, including his former team and Yankees' rival, the Boston Red Sox.
Pablo Sandoval
Pablo Sandoval is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents this offseason. In 157 regular-season games this year, Sandoval batted .279 with 16 homeruns and 73 RBIs, but most teams will look to sign him mainly because of his ability to deliver in the playoffs.
After hitting .364 with six homeruns and 13 RBIs in 2012, Sandoval batted .366 in the 2014 MLB Playoffs, helping the San Francisco Giants secure their third World Series titles in four years.
Sandoval will also be a great addition to the Yankees. However, they will have to surrender a draft pick as compensation because the Giants tendered a $15.3 million qualifying offer to Sandoval earlier this week.
