ABC cancelled one of the romantic comedy series, Selfie. They originally planned to air 13 episodes on it first season, but due to the ratings dropping really low since its 2nd episode, they decided to no longer continue with it.
The pilot was promising because it gave them 5.31 million views, but it continues to decline after the second episode that went down to 3.77 million views. The network has not made any statement as to how many more episodes are they willing to air after this news, but one thing is certain, the show is no longer going to have a follow up season.
The story revolves around the life Eliza Dooley (played by Karen Gillan) who is obsessed with the idea of being famous online. She started thinking that she is losing a bit of her life in the real world so she sought for some advice coming from an image expert, Henry Higgs (played by John Cho). Basically, the plot is like an adaptation of the 1956 musical My Fair Lady. Higgs' job is to improve Dooley's social status. The romance between the two was hinted subtly to the audience, but it was not really something they are focused on.
Unfortunately, the story line is not something interesting enough for a lot of people even though it is very timely. The network didn't just pull it out the minute they saw the drastic drop of viewers on its 2nd episode. They gave it another shot and see if it goes up over time. They also tried showing back-to-back episodes of the show this week but the numbers continue to decline and this lead them to the decision of finally terminating it.
There are people who are bashing the lead actors of the show, but there are still fans who actually loved the direction of the story. On the other hand, critics already predicted that it is going to be cancelled soon, even before this announcement.
