Man pushed in front of subway train dies - A 61-year-old, who was pushed in front of an upcoming subway train at the 167th Street and Grand Concourse station on Sunday, has died.
New York Police say the man pushed in front of the subway train, Wai Kuen Kwok, and his wife, were standing and waiting for a downtown train when the incident occurred on Nov.16. Kwok and his wife were reportedly heading for Chinatown in Lower Manhattan.
Wai Kuen Kwok died after being pushed into the path of the oncoming south-bound train around 8:40 a.m. He was pushed by an unidentified man. According to the wife of the man pushed in front of the subway train, the attack was unprovoked. Officials have corroborated this claim from footages of the incident.
The 59 years old wife of Wai Kuen Kwok, whose full identity has not been disclosed, is said to have escaped the incident unharmed. Nonetheless, she was still taken to the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center for medical observation.
According to reports, the suspect who pushed the elderly man in front of the train ran away from the station after the incident. Witnesses say he fled via a city bus.
NYPD officials have since released a surveillance video showing the suspect behind the hideous crime. Authorities say investigations are still underway and it's unclear what may have caused the assailant to push Wai Kuen Kwok in front of the moving locomotive.
The 29 year old son of the man pushed in front of the subway train, who is an Adelphi University student, spoke on behalf of his mother because she understands only Cantonese said. "Please tell the world he is a fine, regular family man," he said.
According to reports, the man pushed in front of the subway train is not the first locomotive-related death in the subway in recent times. In April 2013, a man was crushed by a train a train after being shoved into the tracks by a homeless man who he had argued with. In December of that year a man from Queens died after he was pushed in front if a Times Square train. The suspect was also a homeless man. At least two other similar incidents were recorded in 2012.
