Millions of Americans have already endured almost a week of January-like chill but a second shove of intensely cold air will be felt in all 50 US states which will be bringing below freezing temperatures. On Tuesday and Wednesday, several record cool highs and record low temps have already been set which will continue to spread south and east.
Every region in all 50 US states had a reporting station somewhere within its borders recording below freezing temps Tuesday morning. CNN reported that even Hawaii felt the chill, where the temperature at Mauna Kea on the Big Island plunged to 31 degrees. While in Florida, it was in the upper 20s in the Panhandle and freeze warnings were in effect.
However, the winter whack that all 50 states are facing is not yet over. Another surge of deep freeze will be likely experienced by Wednesday and Thursday in the Midwest and Northeast. The Southeast could see record lows Wednesday morning as temperatures plunge to below freezing temps.
As said by Ryan Maue, a meteorologist of WeatherBELL Analytics, the record breaking cold blankets felt in the US on Tuesday was the coldest November morning since 1976. The surge of cold air was highly unusual for this time of the year and was much more suggestive of a pattern analysts would expect to see in January or February, but definitely not November.
All 50 states endured below freezing temps on Tuesday where over 85 percent of the surface area of the Lower-48 reached or fell to subzero temperatures Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Arctic air pouring over the relatively warm Great Lakes waters is generating extreme lake-effect snows which will be measured in feet from Michigan to New York states.
Aside from the below freezing temperatures, thunder and lightning have also been reported. Almost 6 feet or 70 inches of snow could possibly be experienced in south of Buffalo while in Lancaster, New York, has already received more than 40 inches of snow and it continues to snow at 4 to 5 inches per hour.
Below freezing temperature air pushes east through Wednesday with a reinforcing blast of Arctic air with the origin form the North Pole and Siberia is expected to be felt by Thursday. The WeatherBELL Analytics added that any relief is 5 to 6 days away in all 50 states, however, Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit will struggle to rise above freezing until Saturday.
After a brief reprieve on Wednesday morning, more below freezing temps are expected to be felt in all 50 states with a yet another blast of extreme cold in Dakota, Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, as reported by The Weather Channel.
